The Road to Amarillo, Monday March 8th

Destination of the day and home of the most celebrated and unique Route 66 sights, Amarillo Texas. The Texas sky was awesome, partly sunny and huge every which way you looked, the roads along highway 83 were smooth, straight and inviting some fast driving.

Pulled into a little town for gas, had a chat about who, what and where we were from with two local fellas at the station, they told me the best restaurant in Texas was right around the corner, The Dixie Maid. An ancient run down drive-in dairy queen, Mari and I had burgers. Not the best in Texas but probably for miles around, which was nothing else.

Still in Shamrock and probably only in Shamrock, this is a parade float for the up-coming St. Patrick's Day parade, a commode in a cell, somehow Mari convinced me to sit on it.



Yet another restored gas station, many were unrestored and beaten down badly, so when you see these they're quite charming.
